It's a stormy day in Dunedin and rain is coming down in buckets! You notice a little water seeping through the ceiling in the family room...but, wait, more seepage in the bedroom! There is no doubt about it...you need to call a roofer. Now, the question is: repair or replace the roof? It's important to seek out a fully licensed roofing contractor and have the roof looked at. Just be sure to call a roofing contractor who can provide you with proof of license. We are an honest roofing company who will be up front about which option is in your best interest. Our roofing company is licensed and insured.  In the city of Dunedin, you are required to have a permit to put up a new roof. A legitimate contractor will pull the permit for you (our roofing contractor will handle that). The cost of the permit will be bundled in with the final roofing bill. Once the roof is in place, an official from Dunedin's Building Department will conduct an inspection to ensure the new roof is up to code.

Under a different scenario ( non-emergency), the decision to replace an old roof could depend on the roof's age. If the roof is more than 10 years old, it would be wise to have our company's licensed roofing contractor check the roof out. In addition to the age factor, maintenance and any previous repair can affect the life of the roof. Another consideration for a roof replacement is simply to upgrade the value of your home.

The actual process of installing a complete roof consists of many components, such as.....
  • Dormer (the structure e.g. walls and roof) around a window)
  • Roof Truss (the skeleton of a roof (framework of beams supporting the roof)
  • Rafters (beams that run from the top to the bottom of the roof)
  • Decking or Sheathing (panels covering the rafters and to which the roofing material (shingles, etc.) are attached
  • Underlayment  (heavy felt paper (tar paper) which is placed on top of the decking for an extra layer of moisture protection)
  • Drip Edge (edging at the end of the roof; used to allow water to run off away from the construction underneath)
  • Fascia (Fascia  (trim that covers the rafter end of the eaves)
  • Soffit (underside of the eaves that covers the area between the house and the end of the eaves)
  • Valley (the intersection of two sloping roof planes (the intersection of a cross hip or cross gable roof)
  • Hip (the external angle formed by the intersection of two sloping roof planes)
  • Gable (triangle shaped part of the end of a building underneath the roof and above the main portion of the house)
  • Ridge (highest point of the roof)
  • Flashing (pieces of metal used to prevent the seepage of water around any intersection or projection in a roof, e.g.vent pipes and chimneys)
  • Starter Strip  (asphalt roofing attached to the eaves to protect the spaces under the cutouts and joints of the shingles)
  • Vents (Louver designed to move hot air and moisture out of the attic or crawl space for ventilation)
  • Pan Roof (the bottom flat part of a roofing panel which lies between the panel)

It's important to understand that before the roof can be installed, rotted wood underneath has to be replaced. Also, if there is water damage to the edge of the roof, then the overhang needs to be rebuilt. Our roofing experts will take care of that by replacing the rotted fascia and soffit.
If you are looking for an experienced and highly qualified roofing company to replace your home's deteriorated roof, look no further, call Roofing Dunedin at
